AAHL League Information

The AAHL, founded in 1974, currently consists of 4 leagues (Beginner, Rec, Over 35, and Open).  Each league consists of numerous teams and divisions allowing players of all skill levels the ability to compete with others of similar abilities and hockey knowledge in an attempt to make the experience enjoyable.

Descriptions of each league are provided below as a general guideline.  At various times, season lengths and game times may be adjusted.  Pricing for each league varies and is adjusted periodically to account for changes in league costs.  Payment plans are offered for certain leagues.

Open
This is our flagship league that consists of 3 levels (AAA, AA, A) and from 3 to 4 divisions within each level to allow players to compete with others who are of similar abilities and skill level.  The league consists of a 20 game season and a double elimination playoff for the top 4 teams in each division.  Each team has a captain who is allowed to recruit and build their own team prior to each season and then based on those players, is assigned to one of the divisions.  Players who wish to play in the Open league are required to attend one of our evaluation sessions so that all captains and board members can assess the new players' skill level and appropriately assign them to a division or team.  This is a competitive league for players of all levels.

Beginner
This is truly a beginner level league for those who have little to no prior hockey playing experience but are interested in learning the game in a safe, controlled environment with the intention of moving into one of our other leagues.  Players are assigned to teams prior to the season by the league coordinator.

Rec
This is a league that consists of players at all skill levels who are looking for a fun way to get some exercise, meet new people, and just enjoy the game of hockey.  The league has rules in place to allow all players to compete and have fun together on the ice.   Players are assigned to teams prior to each season by the league coordinator.

Over 35
This is a supplemental league that requires players to have played no less than 4 seasons in our Open league before becoming eligible for Over 35.  Currently this league consists of Lower, Middle, Upper, and Elite divisions, all playing on Monday nights.  Teams at the Lower, Middle, and Upper levels go through a draft process prior to each season so your team and  team mates are likely to change each season.  The goal of this league is to provide competitive hockey while getting to know players from across the league.  The Elite level is more like our Open league where captains are able to build their own team each season with known players.
